Folding knives: the different locking systems

Couteaux pliants : les différents systèmes de fermeture

In the world of folding knives, the locking system is an essential element. It determines the safety, ease of use, and durability of the knife. Here is an overview of the main mechanisms found today.

👉 The Liner Lock
Very common on modern knives, this system uses an internal plate that locks the blade in the open position. It often allows for one-handed operation, but requires vigilance when closing, as the fingers are in the path of the blade.

👉 The Stop Pin / Stop Notch
Found on many traditional knives, it holds the blade open using a spring. There is no full lock, but rather progressive resistance suited for controlled use.

👉 The Rotating Ring Lock
The ring lock is a rotating metal ring that locks the blade in the open position—and on recent models, also in the closed position.

👉 The Back Lock
This is the mechanism we chose for Le Sinagot.
Robust and time-tested, the back lock securely locks the blade in the open position. To close the knife, simply apply pressure from above, downwards, on the lever located on the back of the handle. The blade then releases naturally and securely.

🔒 A choice guided by safety
The back lock offers a key advantage: fingers remain out of the blade's path during opening and closing. A reliable, intuitive, and reassuring system, particularly suited for everyday use.

Le Sinagot extends this vision, a comprehensive approach combining heritage, use, and safety.
